Checking that recording is correctly in stereo using Audacity

Submitted by admin on 2 June 2015

A correct stereo recording will display "Stereo" in Audacity, and will show two channels (i.e. two similar wave forms). This is how it should be:

Beware having a stereo recording but only on one channel. This will be labelled as "Stereo" in Audacity, but will have one of the channels completely empty. This is no good, as it will be only heard through a single speaker:

Stereo but only using channel 1

A mono recording will display as "Mono" in Audacity and have only one channel. In general we try to always use stereo recordings for Lingopolo, though some of our recordings come from external sources and we therefore have no control over the original.
